Ed Broome Connecting around Earth Hour

Connector Ed Broome speaks to the crowd at his first community screening of Telling the Truth

COLLINGWOOD Connector Ed Broome played host to 30 people at his first screening on Earth Hour night.

"I would never have thought that being part of an online (Connector) community would actually connect me to my physical community, but it has. The first thing I did after organising when and where I would have my screening, was to type up a flyer and walk down my street and put one in each post box."

Broome also sent the invitation to his local community radio station. "A reporter enthusiastically emailed me back prior to publicising the event, as did three MPs I emailed who took the time to reply to explain why they could not attend."

After a well attended evening and a healthy discussion after the screening, a list of five priorities was sent to local MP's and other community members agreed to become Connectors.

"I am looking forward to doing it again," says Broome. His story shows that being a connector can also provide a bridge to connecting our own local communities.

The green carpet was in place, the television camera crew’s and newspaper photographers were jockeying for position after being left waiting (in true Hollywood style) for ten minutes at Sydney Theatre.

The Sustainable Maleny group on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast have shown how to get an idea for reducing their carbon footprint up and running across their entire community.
